What is International Music Day?
International Music Day is a connected set of free and public music events which takes place each year on the 21st June since 2012 in more than 100 countries and 700 cities around the world. The idea is to bring music out onto the streets and in public spaces, though many events will be taking place in established venues as well. All events are marked on an interactive map on the main Music Day website, so you can find an event near you or sign up to host one yourself. Performers can also find a gig.
Fête de la Musique originated 35 years ago in France by the Minister for Culture. It takes place on the same date every year – 21st June – which is also the midsummer solstice.
