5th Discover Film Awards launch in London

The 5th annual Discover Film Awards in London

Friday 13th April to Sunday 15th April.

The Discover Film Awards is the fastest growing short film festival in the world with over 1,700 submissions per festival and offers one of the largest short film cash prize funds available at festivals (totalling over $50,000).
Discover Film are looking for the very best short films that are entertaining and tell a story. The sort of short films that people want to watch. That make them laugh. Or cry. That shock and surprise.

Prince Charles cinema screenings

The festival involves public cinema screenings at the Prince Charles cinema, in Leicester Square in central London which was voted at the “UK’s funkiest cinema” by the Evening Standard and described by Quentin Tarantino as his favourite London cinema.As well as screenings, the festival includes discussions at universities, networking events, filmmaker drinks, an opening party, a closing party and awards event at The Hospital Club in Soho that brings together investors, distributors, journalists, film producers and media professionals.

The Craghoppers Film Prize

A major supporting partner of the festival is Craghoppers, which awards The Craghoppers Film Prize as part of The Discover Film Awards. This celebrates the very best talent of student and established short filmmakers. It includes one student cash prize of £2,000 at each Discover Film Awards in April and October 2018. The ultimate Craghoppers Film Prize will be up for grabs at the October Discover Film Awards. Entries will be shortlisted from all entries from the April and October festivals, no matter what genre or who has entered. The first prize is £20,000 in cash and the second prize is £10,000 in cash.

Cash prizes and distribution deals

Films selected to be screened at the festival get the option of various distribution deals. Distribution is optional and entirely up to the film makers. Also, as well as cash prizes, and distribution deals. Winners can get help with future film projects in the form of discounted rates from partner firms (such as production houses) and mentoring from senior commercial film and business executives.

‘Eli’ by Colin Gerrard

Discover Film also introduces filmmakers to funding sources for future projects. Often winning a prize at Discover Film will bring in many additional benefits as shown with previous winner Colin Gerrard. Winning the audience award in 2017 for his short film Eli, he stated that, “It was an honour to win the audience award at the Discover Film Festival. The exposure that it gave ‘ELI’ as well as the reception the film received has been a wonderful boost.”
