The first horse racing bet I put on was at University. I remember vividly wandering into the betting shop across the road to ask how I could put a bet on. I was a newbie, but everyone helped me work out how to put a bet and what the odds mean. That year I won…first, third and fourth place.
Ascot is the most well-known horse race, and people look forward to it every year. I went to Royal Ascot a few years ago. In the sunshine – drinking bubbles and having a few cheeky bets. It really is an amazing experience.
When is Royal Ascot?
Royal Ascot will be held this year on Tuesday 16th – Saturday 20th June.
This year races will be private affairs without any general public allowed due to concerns about the Coronavirus. No public gatherings are allowed.
What channel is it on?
Sky Sports and ITV will be showing the racing from Tuesday 16th June. Ascot will be showing 36 races over 5 days.

History of Ascot
In 1711, Queen Anne rode her horse from Windsor Castle to the field and said, “This would be a fine place for a race.” Later that year, the first event was held, and the tradition has continued ever since. The royal procession has been going strong since 1825.
The Royal Enclosure is an invitation-only section of the Ascot Racecourse. It was established in 1807, originally only for guests of King George III. Around 300,000 people attend the Royal Ascot every year.

Ascot is inviting fans across the globe to dress up with a hat and take part in Royal Ascot At Home.
Whether it is a ladies’ hat, men’s top hat, Panama, trilby or another racing hat, simply take and share a photo on social media using the campaign hashtags #StyledWithThanks and #RoyalAscot. Every photo shared is in with the chance of winning some amazing prizes while helping those affected by COVID-19.
Participants are being encouraged to donate £5 to the campaign fundraising page, share their outfit photo and tell their friends to do the same, helping to spread the #StyledWithThanks message in recognition of those working on the frontline of the global COVID-19 crisis.
Ascot has launched its appeal with a £100,000 donation. All money raised will be split between four frontline charities: The National Emergencies Trust Relief Fund, NHS Charities Together, The Care Workers Charity and the Berkshire Community Foundation Coronavirus Fund.

Photos posted using the campaign hashtags will be turned into a giant rainbow mosaic image tribute, becoming a permanent installation at Ascot Racecourse.
