FRAMELESS After Dark: Why This Immersive London Experience Is Worth Seeing
If you haven’t experienced FRAMELESS yet, put this one on your London list! I went recently and absolutely loved it.
Sitting just moments from Marble Arch, FRAMELESS takes some of the world’s most famous works of art and completely transforms the way you experience them.
Rather than standing in front of a painting in a traditional gallery, you’re completely immersed in it. Iconic Art moves across the walls and floors, accompanied by music, animation and incredible visual effects. You can wander, sit, watch and simply take it all in.
And now there’s another way to experience it: FRAMELESS Lates.
What is FRAMELESS?
FRAMELESS is London’s permanent immersive art experience, bringing more than 40 masterpieces to life across four main galleries.
You’ll encounter works by artists including Monet, Van Gogh, Dalí and Rembrandt — but probably not quite as you’ve seen them before.
Each gallery has its own atmosphere and way of using projection, movement, sound and scale to immerse you in the artwork.
What I particularly loved was that it didn’t feel like you needed to know anything about art before going. You can appreciate the artists and their original works, but you can equally just enjoy being surrounded by something spectacular if you are an art enthusiast. One minute you can be immersed in Dalí and Munch, Monet and Van Gogh, Turner and Hokusai, and Kandinsky and Mondrian.
It’s one of those London experiences that’s genuinely difficult to capture properly in photographs because so much of the impact comes from being inside it.
Four galleries, four different ways of seeing art
What makes FRAMELESS particularly interesting is that the galleries aren’t arranged chronologically or around a single artistic movement. Instead, masterpieces from different artists and periods are brought together through four distinct themes, giving you a completely different experience as you move from one space to the next.
Beyond Reality
Takes you into the strange, dreamlike, and surreal, bringing together works including Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, Munch’s The Scream, Klimt’s The Tree of Life and Bosch’s extraordinary The Garden of Earthly Delights.
Colour in Motion
Shifts the focus to colour and the individual brushstrokes that make up a painting. It’s particularly strong on Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, with works from Monet, Van Gogh, Seurat, Signac and others transformed through movement around you.
The World Around Us
explores how artists have interpreted landscapes, cities, oceans and the natural world across centuries. Here you’ll find everything from Rembrandt and Canaletto to Turner, Monet, Hokusai and Van Gogh — showing just how differently artists have seen the world around them.
The Art of Abstraction
Leaves the recognisable world behind altogether. Colour, shape and form take over as you move through works by pioneers of abstract art including Kandinsky, Mondrian, Malevich, Klee and Hilma af Klint.
It’s this thematic approach that makes FRAMELESS feel less like walking through an art-history timeline and more like exploring different ways of seeing. You can move from Dalí’s surreal dreamscapes to Monet’s brushstrokes, stand inside Turner’s dramatic landscapes and then lose yourself in Kandinsky’s colour and form — all within the same visit.
FRAMELESS Lates: immersive art after dark
If you fancy experiencing FRAMELESS without children and kids around this August Bank Holiday Weekend, FRAMELESS Lates takes place every Friday and Saturday from 6pm–10pm and is exclusively for over-18s.
You still get to explore the four permanent immersive galleries, but there’s a more grown-up evening atmosphere, with a curated soundtrack from Soho Radio and drinks available from the Café Bar.

Last chance to see Stories – Brought to Life
There’s an extra reason to visit FRAMELESS Lates over the next couple of weekends.
Stories – Brought to Life, created by FRAMELESS in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, is now exclusively showing during Lates — and there are only four nights left before it finishes on 5 September 2026.
The 15-minute immersive residency takes portraits from the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection and uses animation, photography, music, archival imagery and storytelling to explore the lives of five cultural icons:
- Queen Elizabeth II
- Nelson Mandela
- William Shakespeare
- Amy Winehouse
- Malala Yousafzai
Rather than simply seeing their portraits, you’re invited into the stories of the people behind them.
The experience takes place in FRAMELESS’ Blank Canvas Gallery and is included with your FRAMELESS Lates ticket, alongside access to the four permanent galleries. It’s right next to the Frameless Cafe Bar, away from the other galleries, so make sure you don’t miss it.
The final dates are Friday 28 August, Saturday 29 August, Friday 4 September and Saturday 5 September.
Is FRAMELESS worth visiting?
Totally!
London has no shortage of exhibitions and experiences competing for your money and attention. So I always think the important question is whether something actually feels worth doing.
FRAMELESS does.
It’s visually spectacular, but it also gives you the freedom to experience art differently. You don’t have to follow a prescribed route, read everything on a wall, or worry about whether you understand what you’re looking at. You can sit on the floor, watch the images move around you, and simply enjoy it.
And even if you’ve already visited during the day. FRAMELESS Lates gives you a good excuse to go back and experience the galleries in a completely different atmosphere. It’s a way to enjoy the immersive art experience together with a drink.
Top Tip
Don’t rush through the galleries. Give yourself time to sit down and watch the full sequence unfold around you. Some of the best moments happen when you stop trying to photograph the experience and actually become part of it. I witnessed so many people filming on their phones (myself included). When you put the phone down and allow yourself to be present with the artwork. You can fully be immersed in the experience.
