The Bluetones Release New Single and EP “London Weekend Television”

Third EP in trilogy trailblazing an album slated for new year

  • Single available to stream and download from 12th September
  • EP released 3rd October
  • UK and Ireland tour kicks off 10th October

The Bluetones, the much-loved British indie rock band from West London, are back with a brand new EP London Weekend Television, out 3rd October. The three-track release is led by the single of the same name, available to stream and download from 12th September. The band will head out on a tour of the UK and Ireland kicking off on 10th October in Galway.

Playful, yet punchy and full of nostalgia

London Weekend Television is the third in a trilogy of EPs building towards a new Bluetones album, expected in early 2026.  The new material captures the band’s trademark energy and the melodic craftsmanship that comes from decades of collaboration, whilst also embracing their most playful and light-hearted side.

The track is inspired by that feeling of freedom that comes with the imminent arrival of the weekend, embodied in the 80s and 90s by the moment Thames TV handed over to London Weekend Television. It’s a fun, nostalgic tribute to that sense of excitement and anticipation  that goes with a couple of days off work, college or school.

Lead singer Mark Morriss describes the title track as “a song for only good things. The song grew out of a soundcheck in Warrington,” he recalls.

“We were just jamming together while the PA was being set up, rolling over this lolloping garage inspired riff. We knew we weren’t reinventing the wheel but it felt good.  It’s fun and laidback, inspired by those lost heroes of 1960s garage such The Remains, The Count Five and The Electric Prunes. There was no pretence in writing it — it was about loosening up, and that sense of playfulness fed into the lyrics too.”

Alongside London Weekend Television, the EP features two new tracks:

The Aristocrat:

..sitting in sharp contrast to the inspiration behind LWT, The Artistocrats is a tone poem that took shape after, and against their better judgement, they would find themselves drawn yet again to the annual coverage of the carnival of tastelessness that is the Met Gala. It’s about the coldness and lack of soul that the event exudes…

Play Shadow:

…is a tribute to the band’s late friend Robin, the person who first inspired Mark, Scott and Adam to join a band as teenagers. “The Bluetones wouldn’t have happened without him,” Morriss says. “We wanted to memorialise him properly in a song — and we wanted it to be something mischievous but uplifting, because that’s how we will always remember him.”

The band are pleased with the results of their latest recordings, working at a pace that “keeps us energised and enthused,” says Morriss.

With an album set for 2026, the band will continue this creative rhythm: ““Everyone brings ideas into the room and we build from there. I think we’ve come to recognise a quality that we have when we play together, an instinctive quality where we’re able to colour in each other’s ideas, and it’s opened up our creativity once again. On a roll, as it were.”
