It’s National Bikini Day!
National Bikini Day celebrates the anniversary of the invention of the two-piece bathing suit. The bikini was initially slow to be adopted by the masses. This was because it was rather risqué when it was first designed. Many beaches banned them. Film stars like Ava Gardner and Brigitte Bardot started to wear bikinis on public beaches. They also wore them in their films. This meant that the bikini became more popular and widely accepted.
How to find a bikini best suited to your body shape
Whether the thought of wearing a bikini seems daunting or exciting. It’s time to dig out the bikini and flaunt what your mother blessed you with!
I am heading to Bournemouth Beach next week. There are so many varying designs of swimwear. Each type suits a different body shape. So, let’s run through what would best suit you.
Small boobs
If you have small boobs like me, you don’t want to be buying bikinis which flatten you any further. If you are also a ‘pear-shape’, then I would recommend bikinis with a padded or structured bikini top. Choose fuller bikini bottoms. It would be best if you had bikinis which boost and shape your cleavage. I tend to buy bikinis from New Look. They offer a wide range of padded bra tops in vibrant colours. These are perfect for the beach.

This Black Tie Front Bikini Top cups your boobs whilst giving extra decoration.
Big boobs
For those of you with bigger boobs, again it’s good to buy bikinis which offer your bust support. You don’t want to buy anything which digs into your body, which looks unflattering. Show off that bust this summer!
Big boobs
I love this bardot bikini for big boobs! This retro design has lightly padded cups and gathers across the front for a flattering and supportive look and feel.
Pear-shaped
I am ‘pear-shaped’, which means I have more petite boobs with a big bum and hips. The best way to balance out your shape is to buy full, high-waisted bikini bottoms. This will give you a clean silhouette. Then, couple up with something that gives you a definition. I have some high-waisted bikini bottoms from New Look and a padded bikini top for the summer. Halter neck bikinis are also perfect for creating a fab cleavage and will help draw eyes up top. Just don’t hide your bum away!

Apple shape
Apples usually have a full bust, round tummy, and slim legs. Show off your legs and bust if you have an apple shape. Tankinis are great if you are self-conscious about your tummy. Focus on your key assets. Don’t be afraid to impress everyone on the beach wearing in vibrant colours, highlighting your bust and get those legs out on display.

Hour glass
If you have an hourglass figure then show off your incredible curves and svelte waist in a bikini. Again look at bikinis with bra-like tops which offer support. You want to look for bikini bottoms which help to make your legs look longer. Don’t be afraid to show off your body this summer.

National Bikini Day Resolutions:
1. Try on all of your old bikinis
Keep the ones you love and make you feel fabulous!
2. Recycle
Unless your bikinis have seen better days, don’t throw them away. Give them to friends or charity
3. Treat yourself
With so many cheap bikinis on the market and sales on. Treat yourself to a new bikini. Assess your body shape and see which ones would enhance your totally amazing figure!
