Edinburgh Fringe 2018: Comedy Special
As part of a comedy special dedicated to the Edinburgh Fringe, i am going to offer my top tips on who to watch. The Edinburgh fringe is bursting with talent, so I thought i would dedicate this week to showcase some of the amazing comedians you will get to see this summer.
‘Kearse is seriously good. Quick, funny, smart, to the point…hilarious’ The Scotsman
I had the pleasure of bumping into Leo recently at the Soho House Festival, who was looking tanned & relaxed, despite working at the event. Leo is very charming, but don’t let that fool you. He is vert smart and quick-witted, which means you will be kept on your toes throughout his one-hour show.
Leo Kearse: Right Wing Comedian
Scottish Comedian of the Year, Leo Kearse rips into liberals in his follow up to last year’s sellout hit, I Can Make You Tory featured by Broke Girl in the City He takes a scalpel to male feminists, Labour antisemites, fat activists, environmentalists, white male privilege, #MeToo and much more. He presents a robust defence of Donald Trump, celebrates consumerism, breaks down prejudice against the white working class and shows the inherent immorality and impracticality of socialism. If you want to escape the liberal bubble of the Edinburgh Fringe and see a raw, hilariously antagonistic show from a man who can’t help speaking his mind, this is the show for you.
‘He churns out the gags, provoking a steady stream of laughs in his tight set, which strides purposefully between topics with muscular, efficient lines on each.’
Steve Bennett, Chortle
What Leo has been up to since we last spoke…
Leo Kearse is part of the new wave of raw, bold, American-inspired comedians taking the big UK clubs by storm. He gigs for the Comedy Store, Top Secret, Hot Water, Just The Tonic and Shoreditch House and has toured internationally, with 2018 taking him as far as Belarus and Tasmania.
Leo also has a major role in the controversial video game series Super Seducer, in Super Seducer 2, out in September.
As well as straight stand-up, he performs at festivals and cabaret nights as the improvising ‘Pun Man’ and holds the 2015 Dave TV UK Pun Champion title. Leo is also the co-creator of the sellout show Hate ‘n’ Live, which has top comedians hate on audience suggestions. Leo won Scottish Comedian of the Year in 2017. This year, he was also part of the 5* (The Upside News) Magical Mystery Comedy Coach Tour at the Adelaide Fringe.
A regular co-presenter on TalkSPORT Extra Time and Fubar Radio’s Mark Dolan Eats The News. Leo also appeared on ITV’s Dinner Date and Britain’s Got Talent, BBC Two’s Funny Business and Al Jazeera, as well has having viral YouTube hits featured in Metro and the Daily Mail. Leo will star as Mick Fleetwood in the ITV-produced programme Breaking the Band: Fleetwood Mac in June.
Aside from performing, Leo has written for some of the biggest names in comedy and supplied material used for shows including Question Time, Sam Delaney’s News Thing and BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking The News. Other appearances and media credits include STV, BBC World Service, RT, Radio 5 Live and features in The Sunday Times, The Independent, The Herald and The Scotsman. Leo’s had articles about Jeremy Corbyn, class privilege and right-wing comedy published in The Independent and Fringepig.
