Broke Girl in the City’s Lockdown Diaries: Week 13
Looking at my social media feeds, London feels like a tale of two cities right now. Those who are still in lockdown like me, and those who are out and about again fully in the world. I fully appreciate that the lockdown was never a reality for many key workers.
Seeing so many people heading to the coast and trashing beaches and national nature reserves upsets me. I have family in Bournemouth, and watching the masses descend, and leave their trash behind, makes me fuming as I know my family will stay indoors and also volunteers have to pick up their rubbish in COVID times.
Where was the shielding announcement?
Tomorrow the government have said that they will make another June announcement about shielding. I have lived out of my bedroom for three months. I went for my first walk around the park; something so simple a few months back was quite a challenge. My world has got so small suddenly. You forget how amazing the sound of the wind in the trees sounds, the backlight as the sun sets in the park, and feeling free. Simple things bring so much joy.
My Top 3 Tips for Lockdown: Week 13
It’s been a short blog post this week. My Top 3 Tips for Lockdown this week.
1. DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU
With everything that’s going on, so many people are giving their opinions on everything right now. People think I should shield. People think I shouldn’t shield given what’s happening in the world. It’s important to decide what is right for you. While listening to advice is good, do what is right for you. Nobody else is walking in your shoes.
Many people will have their opinions on Coronavirus. What’s going on, what should be allowed, what they think of the government’s plans and what you should be doing at this time? Only YOU know your truth. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
2. PREPARE FOR LIFE AFTER THE LOCKDOWN
One of the things I have been looking at is preparing my wardrobe for the summer months. I have definitely put on weight, locking myself away for 3 months and not getting out and about. During lockdown, I haven’t dyed my hair and haven’t bought any clothes, despite hairbands to hide my roots on work calls! 1st July is going to be my first foray into summer, and be prepared for when I first come out.
3. KEEP COMMUNICATING
I think this one, for me, has been the trickiest. Something that is important is to keep communicating. Whether this is to people at work, friends, family…loved ones. I can easily slip under the radar, but this is the time when we need to keep talking. I can’t thank my friends enough for checking in on me during the lockdown. Keep communicating right now. It’s more important than ever.
That concludes Week 13 of my Lockdown Diaries!
