Things to do this March
March 1st is St. David’s Day, my Birthday and the beginning of Spring. I love March, with Pancake day. St. Patrick’s Day. Mother’s Day. Women’s International Day!
If you haven’t already done so, I wholeheartedly recommend going to see Don McCullin at Tate Britain or Mandela: The Official Exhibition. Both fantastic exhibitions. So let’s look at what else is going on in and around the city this month.
St David’s Day / Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!
Friday 1 March
My birthday (today) coincides with St David’s Day, the Patron Saint of Wales. I went to school in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and shared my birthday with the Eisteddfod (a Welsh festival of music, literature and performance) So in celebration of St. David’s Day, I thought I would share some Welsh phrases with you all.

- Nos da – goodnight
- Prynhawn da – good afternoon
- Diolch yn fawr – Thank you

Pancake Day / Shrove Tuesday
Tuesday 5th March
I love pancake day! I don’t think I have ever met anyone else who can make such a mess trying to make pancakes. What’s more they are really cheap to make. I am a traditional girl: lemon and sugar for me. If you want to treat yourself, then check out these amazing pancakes at The Breakfast Club, Islington.

‘Arguably Britain’s greatest living photographer’

This major new exhibition is by one of Britain’s best-known and most widely celebrated photographers, Martin Parr. The exhibition will focus on one of his most engaging subjects – people. Including photographs you may recognise alongside works that never before been exhibited
Portraits of people from around the world are on show. With a special focus on Parr’s wry observations of Britishness, explored through a series of projects that investigate British identity today. I saw Martin Parr Beach Therapy a couple of years ago and can’t wait to see this exhibition.

WOW – Women of the World
8th-9th March, Southbank London
In 2019, WOW presents an incredible line-up of events to mark the launch of The WOW Foundation and begin our countdown to 2020 – the 10th anniversary of WOW.
The programme includes two very special conversations: one on Friday 8 March – International Women’s Day – with Angela Davis, and one with Naomi Klein on Saturday 9 March. You can also enjoy two full afternoons: WOW: What Now? and WOW: What Next? led by Jude Kelly – and more.W
The WOW Foundation is an independent organisation working to build, convene and sustain a global movement that believes a gender equal world is possible and desirable through WOW festivals and empowering women and girls. WOW has held 65 festivals in 5 continents over 30 locations in over 15 countries from Baltimore to Brazil, Cardiff to Karachi, and further across the UK, Australia and the USA, reaching over 2 million girls and women, and men and boys too.
WOW festivals are presented by arrangement with Southbank Centre.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Sunday 17th March, Trafalgar Square
The London St Patrick’s Day Festival, now approaching its seventieth year, attracts more than 125,000 people to events across London and to the parade and festival in central London and Trafalgar Square. It’s become a destination event showcasing the best of Irish food, music, song, dance, culture, and arts.
This year’s theme is #LondonIsOpen. Join in the festivities on Sunday 17 March as the parade sets off at midday from Piccadilly. The Trafalgar Square festival runs from 12pm – 6pm.

Mothers Day
Sunday 31st March
Don’t forget! Not everyone still has mothers in their lives. So if you are lucky enough to have one in your life still. Spoil them today.
